Musical Journeys Around the World with Eirimas Velička | Sunny Brazil: From Rio Carnival to Bossa Nova

The first "Musical Journey with Eirimas Velička" of the autumn season takes us to sunny Brazil, where music has its own unique and instantly recognizable sound. Listening to it, you can almost see the endless blue sky and the sun-drenched beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Brazilian music is famous for the loud, colorful rhythms of the Rio Carnival, the fiery beats of the Samba batucada, and the soft, dreamy melodies of Bossa Nova. During the event, we will listen to authentic samba and bossa nova recordings, and discover the iconic albums of Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim and singer-guitarist João Gilberto. If the mood strikes, we might even play some music, learn a few samba steps, and untangle the intricate patterns of Brazilian rhythms. The evening will be hosted by world music expert and PhD in Art History, Eirimas Velička.
