Nakpas – A Non-Monastic Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Lecture in the VU Senate Hall
When Tibetan Buddhism is mentioned, many in the West envision a monk with a cleanly shaven head. However, few are aware of another, non-monastic tradition of Tibetan Buddhist practitioners – nakpas . A Nakpa (Tib. sngags pa) is a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism who follows the tantric path but is not a monk and typically lives a lay life: having a family, a job, and daily responsibilities. The essence of Nakpa practice is spiritual development using tantric practices, mantras, visualizations, and meditation, integrating all of this into daily life rather than withdrawing from it. Nakpas are often considered intermediaries between the monastic tradition and laypeople, as they receive profound spiritual practices from a teacher but apply them in everyday life, not in monasteries. To tell us about this living tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and ways to integrate it into our daily lives, we have invited an authentic practitioner, an 18th-generation Nakpa, Lama Rigdzin Namkha Gjaco Rinpoche , to give a lecture. We invite you to join us in getting acquainted with this authentic spiritual tradition through the Lama's personal experience and teachings. Admission to the lecture is free, no registration is required. We would be grateful if your donation could help cover organizational expenses. The lecture will be held in Tibetan with live translation into English and Lithuanian. We kindly look forward to your arrival.
