This year, the festival will begin with a special concert at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, where the renowned Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will conduct the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the concert program will feature, alongside works by two prominent composers of Jewish origin – Joseph Achron and Mieczysław Weinberg – a new piece by New York-based Žibuoklė Martinaitytė for violin, cello, and symphony orchestra, "Needle of Light." The Babylonian ruler Belshazzar, associated with the idea of the Antichrist in the Middle Ages, eventually became a symbol of pride, sacrilege, and inevitable doom. J. Achron presented his interpretation to the public in 1924 while living in Berlin; it was first performed in Israel the same year as part of a play staged at the "Teatron Eretz Israeli" theatre. Many circumstances surrounding the creation of the play remained unclear, but it is known that later, while living in the USA, J. Achron created an independent concert piece for symphony orchestra from the music for the play. The festival's opening concert will be symbolically crowned by Symphony No. 21 by Polish-born composer M. Weinberg, whose title "Kaddish" refers to a hymn of Jewish religious rites. This work not only embodies the legacy of Jewish music – by conducting his works in recordings and concerts, M. Gražinytė-Tyla continues her very personal mission to introduce M. Weinberg's music to the widest possible audience. Organizer – Public Institution "Ars Lituanica", partner – Lithuanian National Philharmonic
