Night Walk at Lukiškės in Lithuanian

Escaping into prison has never been this easy. The historic Lukiškės Prison complex, surrounded by a high wall, invites you for a walk. Lukiškės Prison isn't the answer to every question. But who wouldn't want to visit it? Those interested in the everyday life of inmates during the former prison's final years of operation are invited on a unique daytime walk; those who enjoy more intense sensations are recommended the nighttime experience; and those who want to look even deeper can take the historical walk, which introduces more than a century of Lukiškės Prison's history, its different periods and its architecture. Three different walk formats – three ways to get to know one of Vilnius' most distinctive places. An experience with no equivalent anywhere in the region. We can't shake the feeling that this walk, tracing the footsteps of former inmates, is the city's best-kept secret. As a reminder, the writer Žemaitė was imprisoned here, along with signatories of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Jonas Vileišis, Mykolas Biržiška and Vladas Mironas, partisan commander Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and many other historical figures. Henrikas Daktaras was also held here, but you probably already knew that. Walk by day and by night We've all heard stories about life in prison, the world of crime, or Lukiškės itself more than once. But who knows it all better than those who know Lukiškės Prison inside out and worked here for a long time? Our prison wardens spent a great deal of time at Lukiškės and saw everything with their own eyes. Combined with years of professional guiding experience and connections, they become almost the interlocutors of your dreams. Don't be afraid to ask, and save your deepest questions for the walk. Death row cells, visiting rooms, human "containers", informants, historical figures, forbidden items, horses, love affairs, secret works of art, inmate weddings, prison escapes, and spaces of Lukiškės Prison never seen before. After the sun sets, the prison truly feels haunted, and only becomes more interesting. This is more than an escape room, a tour, or a night at the museum. An interactive walk in the dark – you, the walls of Lukiškės Prison, and a flashlight. We promise it's a walk you truly won't forget for the rest of your life. Walk it by day and by night! Get your tickets in advance. It's really worth it. Lukiškės Prison buildings The current Lukiškės Prison complex, which was, incidentally, a very modern and expensive facility for its time as a place of incarceration, was designed by architect G. Trambickis and his team. Construction of the prison was completed in 1904. The Lukiškės Prison complex consists of an administrative building, the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a dormitory building, the prison building, a prison-hospital building, a wall, and a control checkpoint. The complex is listed in the Register of Cultural Property and holds the status of a national cultural heritage site. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 Lukiškės Prison has captured the attention of city residents and artists alike. The new version of Lukiškės Prison is building a different image, emotion and story. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 is not just a new or better version of the prison. It's much more than that. This conversion is one of the most interesting cultural phenomena in Lithuania. From now on, we look only toward a better version of the prison rather than looking back. Lukiškės Prison is now full of culture, music and inspiring people. The conversion format we have proposed already brings together 650 creators and residents. The community of residents at Lukiškės creates good things and shares them with the city's residents. A historic heritage site in the center of Vilnius has become a generator of music, contemporary art, design and culture. Lukiškės Prison has become a wonderful place, working for the benefit of its communities and supporting its artists. There is so much culture here that artists and creatives want to work here. This vision and concept has attracted attention from across Europe and the world. All that's left is to change your perspective and enjoy this conversion.
