Night Walk in Lukiškės (in Lithuanian)

Escaping to prison has never been this easy. The historic Lukiškės Prison complex, ringed by a high wall, invites you for a walk. Lukiškės Prison isn't the answer to every question. But who wouldn't want to visit it? Those curious about the everyday life of inmates during the prison's final years of operation are invited on a unique daytime walk; for fans of sharper sensations, we recommend the night-time experience; and for those who want to dig even deeper, there's a historical walk introducing more than a century of Lukiškės Prison's history, its different periods, and its architecture. Three different walking formats – three ways to get to know one of Vilnius's most distinctive places. An experience with no equal anywhere in the region. We can't shake the feeling that this walk, retracing the footsteps of the convicted, is the best-kept secret in the whole city. As a reminder, this is where writer Žemaitė was imprisoned, along with signatories of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Jonas Vileišis, Mykolas Biržiška and Vladas Mironas, partisan commander Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and many other historical figures. Henrikas Daktaras was imprisoned here too, but you already knew that. Day and night walks You've probably heard stories about prison life, the criminal underworld, or Lukiškės more than once. But who knows it better than those who know Lukiškės Prison inside out and worked here for a long time? Our prison wardens spent a great deal of time in Lukiškės and saw it all with their own eyes. Combined with the guides' many years of professional experience and connections, they become almost the conversation partners of your dreams. Don't be afraid to ask, and save your deepest questions for the walk. Death-row cells, visitation rooms, human “containers,” operas, historical figures, banned items, horses, love affairs, secret artworks, inmate weddings, prison escapes, and spaces of Lukiškės Prison never seen before. Once the sun sets, the prison truly comes alive with ghosts and becomes even more intriguing. This is more than an escape room, a tour, or a night at the museum. An interactive walk in the dark – you, the walls of Lukiškės Prison, and a flashlight. We promise this is a walk you will truly never forget. Walk it by day and by night! Get your tickets in advance. It's really worth it. Lukiškės Prison landmarks The current Lukiškės Prison complex – a very modern and expensive facility for a prison, by the way – was designed by architect G. Trambickis and his team. Construction was completed in 1904. The Lukiškės Prison complex consists of an administrative building, the building of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a dormitory building, the prison building, a prison-hospital building, a wall, and a control checkpoint. This complex is listed in the Register of Cultural Property and holds the status of a national cultural heritage site. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 Lukiškės Prison has caught the attention of city residents and artists alike. The new version of Lukiškės Prison is building a different image, emotion, and story. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 isn't just a new or improved version of the prison. It's much more than that. This conversion is one of the most interesting cultural phenomena in Lithuania. From now on we look only toward a better version of the prison instead of looking back. Lukiškės Prison is full of culture, music, and inspiring people. The conversion format we've proposed already unites 650 creators and residents. The community of residents in Lukiškės creates good things and shares them with the city. A historic heritage site in the center of Vilnius has become a generator of music, contemporary art, design, and culture. Lukiškės Prison has become a wonderful place that operates for the benefit of its communities and supports its artists. There is so much culture here that artists and creatives want to create here. This vision and concept has attracted attention from across Europe and the world. All that's left is to change your perspective and enjoy this conversion.
