Not of This World's Fashion || Dir. R. Kazlas

“Not of This World's Fashion” is not just the title of the play, but also an entry made by Precentor K. V. Šulcas in the books of the deceased: “He was […] an honest man. Not of this world's fashion…” (1977, p. 573). Actor and director of the play, R. Kazlas, to whom the label of “not chasing this world's fashion” also applies, says about the upcoming performance: “With this work, I want to look at Kristijonas Donelaitis not as a historical figure already known to all of us, not as a classic who has long lived only in textbooks or anthologies, but as an always living poet, living his eternal years and constantly creating them, like a poem. He and his work are like a healthy foundation for us, who still speak Lithuanian. In this play, I would be more interested in the silent poet, not one delivering sermons; more in the one toiling, moving, and dancing, not standing in the pulpit; more in his own yard with his wife, not in the fields with peasants; ripening the word, not writing it down. In my opinion, K. Donelaitis is a body that became a word. May those who do not think so forgive me. He is a man who respected the laws of earth, sky, and time, rather than chasing fleeting human fashions, like spring or autumn – each time seemingly the same, yet always different.”
