Outdoor Performance “The Girl with a Ri(FLE)fle”
We will tell you the story of Magdutė, a girl of about nine years old who lived through a very difficult period in Lithuania’s history, yet endured everything and never broke. We will tell you how she learned to be brave and overcame her fears — fears that, believe us, sprout in every child’s heart like mushrooms after rain. Especially when a happy and bright childhood is trampled by the heavy leaden boots of war and post-war turmoil. This is a story about a fighter, a Tracker, a Forest Sister who became a helper to Lithuania’s freedom fighters when the occupying plunderers deported her family to distant Siberia. In the mirror of Magdutė’s story we also see the history of post-war Lithuania — of partisan struggles and self-sacrifice, of ordinary people’s endurance — a history that passed through fire and water, through dark times of lies, and finally led Lithuania to independence. The performance was inspired by the wonderful and already beloved children’s book “The Girl with a Rifle. A Story About a Girl Partisan” by Marius Marcinkevicius and Lina Itagaki. But Stalo teatras would not be Stalo teatras if it did not find a way to present it as vividly and interestingly as possible — using new and unexpected object theatre techniques, and performed under the open sky. You have definitely never seen a performance like this! This time pots will act for you and tell the story — pots of various sizes, shapes, colours, and ages. Of course, what matters most is not their shape, but their content — what is brewing inside those pots and with what we can treat the audience. Courage, hope, heartfelt sensitivity and compassion? Perhaps love, longing, memories of childhood days? Or perhaps a stubborn resolve to fight against evil and injustice in the everyday environment in which we live? And finally — if there are pots, there will be spoons too, and a spoon in a child’s hands is always more powerful than a rifle. For children of primary school age The creation of the performance is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture
