After Vladimir Mayakovsky's works Director – Jonas Vaitkus Futurist Metamorphosis and Farewell Concert. 2 hrs 20 min. Premiere – 20 September 2019. Main Hall. Creative team: Director – Jonas Vaitkus ; Set, Costume and Lighting Designer – Jonas Arčikauskas ; Music and Video Projections – Oleksandr Shymko ; Choreographer – Pavelas Fokinas . Director Jonas Vaitkus defines the genre as a futurist metamorphosis and farewell concert, inspired by the early poetry of Russian futurist poet Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930), the play Mayakovsky: A Tragedy (1913) and the poems A Cloud in Trousers (1914) and The Backbone Flute (1915). Vaitkus's production – in which almost the entire Vilnius Old Theatre company performs – seeks to remind us of the innate need for truth and justice, to jolt and awaken a society drunk on entertainment. Mayakovsky's distinctive style was forged at the crossroads of the turbulent artistic quests of the 20th century. The avant-garde movements of the time aspired to create the art of the future – futurism – which negated and scorned the culture of the past, glorified the rhythm of industry and worshipped the city. His early lyric poetry is permeated by dualism: the lyrical hero's loneliness and an unquenchable longing for humanity, the power of art and its inability to change the course of existence. The performance is in Russian with Lithuanian subtitles. For a clear view of the subtitles we recommend seats from row 7 in the stalls. Premiere – 20 September 2019.
