CINDERELLA || Puppet show for children

Do you remember the fairy tale of Cinderella? The wicked stepmother forcing the girl to do hard housework? The King's invitation to the ball? The pumpkin turned into a carriage, the beautiful gilded garments, the clock striking midnight and breaking the fairy godmother's magic spell? And the lost magical glass slipper and the meeting with the Prince? This is a story about an orphan girl who, despite experiencing much hardship, being humiliated and oppressed by her stepmother and stepsisters, managed to wait for happiness and recognition and make her dreams come true. This new interpretation of Cinderella is presented at the “Lėlės” Theatre by the long-time duo of playwright and director Nijolė Indriūnaitė and artist Aušra Paukštienė. They are well-known to audiences for their visually rich and spiritually uplifting shadow puppet plays (“White Fairy Tales”, “The Snow Queen”) and the musically playful puppet show “Flower Stories”, which explores fundamental values through the language of puppetry. Together, the creators build a sense of magical time on stage. According to the director, time becomes magical when we (people) meet, when we feel happy, and when we help each other experience it. Based on Nijolė Indriūnaitė's play “The Magic Shoes”, this classic story of Cinderella invites young audiences to immerse themselves in the search for magical time. And when is that time magical? The miniature characters living in the fairy-tale box will remind us how fragile time can be, and how precious it is to meet one another.
