Persian and Lithuanian Melodies: Intercultural Connections

A unique concert of Persian and Lithuanian music! The programme is performed by Dariush Rasouli (Iran) and Eirimas Velička. The Iranian ney flute performer Dariush Rasouli has already performed in Lithuania on several occasions and is well known to our audiences. This time he joins Lithuanian musician Eirimas Velička for a concert of Persian and Lithuanian melodies. The musicians will play traditional instruments: the Persian ney flute, the stringed tar, and Lithuanian kankles, violin, and skudučiai. Together they will perform Persian classical music, Persian folk melodies from the Qajar dynasty era, and the tunes of Lithuanian folk songs recorded by Ludwig Rhesa and Antanas Juška. The performers dedicate this concert to the 250th birth anniversary of the folklorist and Königsberg University professor Martin Ludwig Rhesa, and to 2026 — the Year of the Kankles. Dariush Rasouli is an Iranian performer who plays the classical Persian ney flute and a plucked string instrument. In 1991 he graduated from the University of Art in Tehran, where he studied traditional Persian music under masters Mohammad Ali Kiyaninezhad and the legendary ney virtuoso Hassan Kassai. Since 2004 he has lived in Warsaw, performs actively, and stages joint concerts with various Polish musicians. He has recorded several music albums. Eirimas Velička is a Lithuanian violinist and ethnomusicologist. In 1989 he graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory (now the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre). He holds a doctorate in art studies. He is one of the founders of the folk-rock group Atalyja. He has compiled the collection Kankles in My Hands and music textbooks for primary school pupils. He studies the music of world cultures.
