Photography Exhibition "Vande Mataram"
India and Lithuania are far apart. So many things separate them – from climate and age to religious practices and daily customs. It's quite natural to be tempted to focus on that exoticism. However, the aim of our exhibition is different. Much in India changes rapidly; daily life is very dynamic and diverse, but beneath this superficial layer, another, deeper one always thrives – the living experience of faith and connection to the divine. Many people in our time seek what would quench their soul's thirst; sooner or later, many turn their gaze towards India and its spiritual traditions. We were among those people. In the autumn of 2025, we spent a month on a pilgrimage through India. During the journey, images accumulated that we would like to share. Vande Mataram – a song heard early in the morning at Varanasi station – became the starting point for a joint project dedicated to the country that so generously welcomed and rewarded us, spiritual travelers. The exhibition title “Vande Mataram” means “Salutation to the Mother” and with this exhibition, we symbolically bow to our native land – Lithuania, and to our spiritual homeland – India. We believe that living experience and the experience of contact with being are timeless values. We hope this is reflected in our works. We chose analogue photography because we believe it is a particularly suitable medium to emphasize that timelessness or slow time. The exhibition presents original 24×30 cm handmade silver gelatin prints.
