Premiere. Dance Performance ABRAXAS

Something wild lies in getting lost. It begins when the body loses its usual bearings and it's unclear where you are or in which direction to move. It's a state of disorientation and confusion that simultaneously heightens awareness of the surroundings. Getting lost is akin to wonder – a moment when the usual perception of the world is briefly disrupted. Then the path leads into the forest: a space where it's easy to lose direction, but where one can also discover other ways to move, see, and orient oneself. The forest here is not a random image. It is already present in composer Bronius Kutavičius's „Paskutinės pagonių apeigos” (Last Pagan Rites) – a work created in 1978, which inspired the dance performance ABRAXAS. Kutavičius's work intertwines choir, organ, and horn music, alongside which appear a grasshopper, an oak, a snake, and a mountain. Wild nature and the forest here are not a backdrop – they are an inseparable part of the music. ABRAXAS translates this world into body and movement. Disorientation here becomes a physical practice: bodies fall, lose direction, and movement does not always lead forward. It can wander, spin, deviate, disintegrate, or move against itself. Choreographer Paweł Sakowicz (Poland) is interested in the tension between a clear ritual structure and a body that can lose direction or escape from it. Together with dancers Oksana Griaznova, Ieva Navickaitė, and Eivinas Dziena, he explores how the movement and relationships of bodies change when clear reference points are gone.
