Premiere! LOW LIFE || Puppet cabaret for adults
“Low Life” is an exceptional work by the famous and acclaimed British puppetry company Blind Summit Theatre, where puppet theatre transcends traditional boundaries to reveal the reality of people living on the margins of society. The play's script is inspired by the works of the famous American writer Charles Bukowski—his poetry and prose, filled with nihilism, irony, and melancholy. In this performance, the audience encounters various characters living on the fringes of society: lonely drunks, losing gamblers, and exhausted writers living in a hopeless daily routine, yet never losing their sarcastic sense of humor. Their stories—both sad and absurdly funny—are told through the unique puppetry aesthetic of Blind Summit. Blind Summit Theatre is an internationally acclaimed troupe known for its innovative approach to puppetry. They employ table-top puppetry and a Western adaptation of the Japanese Bunraku technique, where puppets are controlled by multiple puppeteers, giving them unique expression and fluid movement. In “Low Life”, these animation techniques intertwine with live actors, physical theatre, and expressive visual solutions, creating a hypnotizing, surreal stage world. Created in London in 2005, the performance of “Low Life” received rave reviews for its originality, black humor, and deep analysis of human nature. It is a show that provokes, surprises, and captivates. “Low Life” is a journey behind the scenes of human existence, where chaos, absurdity, and fragile glimmers of hope run wild.
