Raminta Šerkšnytė | Etudes of Eternity and Transience
What connection links the Lithuanian music genius M. K. Čiurlionis and the works of Raminta Šerkšnytė , born exactly 100 years later? How does the combination of major and minor resonate in her music? How did her bachelor's work “De profundis” for string orchestra, which maestro Gidon Kremer called “the calling card of Baltic music,” become one of her most frequently performed compositions worldwide? What mystical stories accompany the birth of the opus “…and this too shall pass…”? The Music Magic Club invites you to a meeting with composer Raminta Šerkšnytė , where you will hear not only recordings of her works rarely or never before performed in Lithuania, but also the first performance in Vilnius of her newest work “Etudes”! They will be performed by the talented, internationally acclaimed pianist Onutė Gražinytė. The event will be moderated by musicologist Rasa Murauskaitė-Juškienė. We invite you to an evening full of emotions, poeticism, and mysticism in music! The project is financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture. *** Evening program: “Gloria” for brass quintet, choir, and symphony orchestra (2017, recording) “Sakura” for three choirs (2018, recording) “Presentiments” for flute, viola, and prepared pianos (2002, recording) “Etudes” for piano (2026) – performed live by Onutė Gražinytė “…and this too shall pass…” for violin, cello, vibraphone, and string orchestra (2021, recording) Tickets can be purchased here.
