Rasų Cemetery: A Garden of Memory | Vilnius Tour (MIM)

This tour is part of a guide training course, so some participants will be trainee guides. As a result, the tour will include more stories and greater detail than we usually offer. Stories about this hilly area have survived from ancient pagan times, and since the beginning of the XIX century many notable people who served Lithuania have been buried here. Without their work and dedication, we would all probably live differently today, perhaps somewhere else, and it is hard to say whether we would speak Lithuanian.

During the tour, we will remember the people buried here, their work and their lives, and also talk about the history of the cemetery, look for distinctive gravestones, monuments and chapels. You will learn why cemeteries outside cities began to be established across Europe only at the end of the XVIII century, why townspeople opposed being buried in them, and what ruses the authorities had to resort to in order to persuade them to bury their loved ones in the new place.

🟤 Tour meeting point: we meet by the entrance to Rasų Cemetery on Rasų g.
🟤 Duration: ~ 2 hours. Please be on time and have a copy of your ticket saved on your phone. Once the tour has begun, the guides do not answer the phone, so joining late may be difficult. Children under 10 travelling with adults participating in the tour attend free of charge. We simply ask you to consider whether the tour is suitable for the children.
What if it rains? The tour will go ahead, just remember your umbrellas ☔ and suitable clothing 😊
