RE:TURN | „Šiandienos akistata su Bachu“ (Duo Nida)

Following an exceptionally successful debut at the Music Magic Club, where a full house came to hear them at their very first performance, Duo Nida returns with a new and intriguing programme! The artistry of flautist Miglė Astrauskaitė (France) and cellist Jordan'o Costard'o (France) has already been recognised by audiences in Lithuania, France and Germany, and their interpretations have received high praise from French music critics. Duo Nida also presented original compositions by M. Astrauskaitė on the prestigious French radio programme Génération France Musique. The ensemble’s latest programme, “Šiandienos akistata su Bachu”, invites listeners into an uninterrupted dialogue between past and present. At the concert, Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical legacy — revealed through the Sonata for Flute in E minor and the Inventions — is reflected in works from the twentieth century and today. The influence of the Baroque music genius can be heard in Bachianas brasileiras No. 6 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. The Lithuanian element of the programme is Arvydas Malcys’s sensitive composition “Vienatvė dviese”, while M. Astrauskaitė’s highly expressive work “Besikartojančios mintys”, performed in Lithuania for the first time, reveals the full range of the instruments’ sound. The programme is brought to a lyrical close by a suite from Japanese composer Yuko Uebayashi, written specifically for flute and cello duo. This concert, rich in contrasts and colours, returns listeners to Bach’s timeless music and reveals how the fundamental structures of the Baroque continue to inspire today’s composers.***This Duo Nida performance at the Music Magic Club is part of the RE:TURN project.
