Roundtable Discussion "Art Institutions as Public Infrastructure"
On May 20, the discussion "Fair Remuneration in the Broader Context of Artist-Institution Relationships" will take place at the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC). The following day, it will be continued by a roundtable discussion at Sapieha Palace. Representatives from CAC, Bozar, Mudam, Serralves, TEA, If I Can’t Dance, and the Munch Museum will participate. Lithuanian performing and visual arts professionals are invited to participate by filling out the registration form. This event will build upon questions raised by Belgian sociologist Pascal Gielen, discussed in the forthcoming publication "Decreation: Performing Strategies in Repressive Liberal Times" (working title). In collaboration with the institutions represented by the discussion participants, this book will be published by Valiz in 2027. The upcoming book asks how art institutions can slow down their automated operating principles, creating space for what cannot be measured by metrics, and assuming the role of public infrastructure rather than a service provider or representational platform. A more detailed presentation of the publication and its themes will be sent to event participants via email. The event will be held in English . The event is free. Registration is required: https://forms.gle/CiHxsf7mda98W5iV8 This discussion is organized within the context of the international cooperation project "PIT – Perform Inform Transform," in which CAC is one of the partners. Alongside discursive activities, new performances by Lina Lapelytė, Isabel Lewis, Snejanka Mihaylova, and other artists will be presented in 2026–2027. More about PIT here. The audio recording of the event will later be available on the project website at https://pitperform.eu/ Please be aware that the event may be photographed and/or filmed, and you may appear in event photos and/or videos. These photos and videos may be published on social media or in the media.
