This time, it is truly extraordinary, as two separate stories with a common denominator will merge before your eyes into one spectacular performance. The first story is about love at first sight, trials overcome, a wedding in occupied Vilnius, the horrors of exile and war, fleeing the homeland, and building a new life across the Atlantic. This is the story of the Kazickas couple, who were married for seven decades and became a benchmark of Lithuanian identity, civic spirit, and human warmth. The second story is about a unique phenomenon – the Chicago Lithuanian Opera, which is also celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Over this time, dozens of productions were staged, generations of performers were raised, and the opera became a significant part of the diaspora's culture. The common denominator is Lithuanian heritage, nurtured with love and determination, regardless of time or distance. The result is a concert by the Chicago Lithuanian Opera Chorus and prominent soloists of our country, dedicated to Aleksandra and Juozas Kazickas. Voices from across the Atlantic will flood the church vaults like a wave – born abroad, but always seeking the way home. Let music tonight connect what the ocean divides.
