Samogitian Tough Vilnius? Absolutely Yes!
Did you know that Vilnius has a Samogitian character? This journey begins at the monument to King Mindaugas, where the first foundations of our state were laid — I dare say, Samogitian tough! After all, our great rulers — from Mindaugas and Gediminas to Vytautas — built their power drawing on the loyalty and indomitable strength of the Samogitians! Do you think Vilnius is only the dreams of dukes and baroque curves? But what if I told you that without Samogitian stubbornness, Vilnius would sound quite different today: from the dust off Simonas Daukantas's shoes to the intrigues of Zemaitkind's "headscarf" and the tough characters who shaped the capital? And if the closure of the university had not "extinguished" the Samogitian nobility's Lithuanian movement at Vilnius University in the early 19th century, and that movement had grown into a great national revival with a powerful Samogitian code — how would Vilnius residents speak today? Come to the guided tour "Samogitian Tough Vilnius" and see the city through the prism of character. The tour is free, but at the end of the tour you are welcome to tip the guide.
