The intricate patterns of the paper convey a sense of nature and eternal beauty. The film showcases the meticulous process of karakami production, aiming to capture the essence of nature. These patterns are not merely decorative – they are closely linked to Japan's cultural heritage, historical sites, and traditions. The film features Italian rock carvings, Roman mosaics, indigenous Ainu patterns, and contemporary artworks, presenting an interesting visual dialogue between past and present. This journey through patterns will remind viewers of perhaps forgotten important sensations and a connection to the archaic layer of all humanity. Documentary Film "Ukoapkas" The documentary film "Ukoapkas" (2025) chronicles an intercultural collaboration project that took place in June 2024 in Nibutani, Hokkaido. Australian Aboriginal and Japanese Ainu artists met in linocut cultural exchange workshops to explore and create new art forms together, combining their traditional styles. Directed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meng Qu and produced by Prof. Kanako Uzawa, "Ukoapkas" sensitively and insightfully documents these creative exchanges, revealing both cultures' deep respect for natural materials, presenting this unifying philosophy as a dialogue about a sustainable cultural future. "Ukoapkas" is more than a documentary – it is a testament to the power of art to connect cultures and forge new paths for indigenous peoples' self-expression in a globalized world.
