Sirenos’26: Traps
Have you ever felt trapped in space or in your own thoughts? As if a trap you created yourself won't let you go? How do you feel? How is it possible to break free? “Traps” is a work by Ukrainian creator Rita Lira, where dance, theatre, sculpture, architecture, and urban poetry meet. It tells of a hopeless feeling of being trapped, of a shackled existence, of an inability to break free. “Traps” is a kind of conversation between the city and a creature living in it, a stanza of a visual poem. “One night I suffered from insomnia, worrying about where I was going in life, what lay ahead of me. Suddenly I felt frozen, not only was I physically unable to get out of bed – my thoughts and emotions were also stuck. Then I realized that my own imagination had become my trap, but even that didn't help me break free.” – Rita Lira Rita Lira is a dance creator from Ukraine, currently residing in France. In her work, she combines contemporary dance, street dance styles, visual and documentary art. Her artistic activity is closely linked to theory and reflections on the theme of traps in psychology, as well as reflections on the experience of war and forced migration. Rita Lira's performances have been presented in France, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Ukraine. She is a member of the Ukrainian Contemporary Dance Platform. In the academic year 2023–2024, Rita Lira graduated from the “Hérodote” educational program at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
