From 22 to 24 May 2026, the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre will host the 25th “Vilnius Mama Jazz” – an international jazz festival that showcases the most famous foreign jazz musicians while nurturing the culture and traditions of Lithuanian jazz. As a special gift to listeners for this 25th anniversary, the festival offers free daytime concerts of the Lithuanian programme, featuring the country’s brightest jazz names and most promising creators. 21st Century Quintet Davit Avetisyan – sax Andrius Savčenko – keys Danielius Skeivelas – guitar Artūrs Duckis – bass Mihail Novikovs – drums This progressive jazz group brought together Lithuanian and Latvian musicians in 2019 – then-students of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre: Davit Avetisyan (saxophone), Andrius Savčenko (keyboards), Danielius Skeivelas (guitar), Artūrs Duckis (bass guitar), and Mihail Novikovs (drums). In its very first year, the ensemble tested its strength at the “Kaunas Jazz” festival competition, and over its six years of existence, it has performed at almost all of the country’s major jazz festivals. Today, the quintet is well-known not only in the Lithuanian jazz scene; they have also performed at jazz festivals in Norway, Moldova, and Latvia. In 2024, the band reached the finals of the Euroradio Jazz Competition. In 2025, the “21st Century Quintet” concert on the occasion of Jazz Day was broadcast on the radio in Lithuania, Latvia, and Armenia. The distinctive feature of the quintet’s music is Armenian motifs woven into a colorful fusion fabric.
