Built on the site of a shrine to Milda, the legendary goddess of love, and known today as Vilnius’s “Baroque Pearl”, this church regularly features on lists of the world’s most beautiful churches. And indeed, once you step over the tomb of the church’s benefactor at the threshold and enter, the theatre frozen in white stucco across the vaults takes your breath away: musical angels and demons of war, saints and sinners, the moon and the sun, army drums, apparitions of the plague, elephants, dolphins, dragons, snakes... you could never name or see them all, while more than 2,000 pairs of eyes watch you. Every sculpture tells its own story, sometimes of suffering, sometimes of love; there are so many symbols and signs that we will barely have time to decipher them all. 🟣 Tour starts: at the church gates; 🔵 Tour duration ~ 2.15 hours. 🟢 The tour is free for children up to and including age 10, but please assess what your children are able to manage and take their wishes about joining the tour into account.
