The artists presented in the exhibition turn to the role of everyday technologies in the self-fashioning of contemporary individuals — the processes of forming and expressing identity, relating to others, as well as the concept of maturity and the societal expectations and supporting infrastructures that define it. The home, understood both as a physical space and as a virtual environment, becomes a place where life narratives fracture and are reassembled, where threads of interpersonal relationships, fragments of popular culture, and relentless flows of information are interwoven. The exhibition “Housekeeping in Dangerous Times” is complemented and expanded by the “Sound Room” — a media library and meeting space curated by Vladas Dieninis and Benas Trakimas (“Method, Sound & Silence”, SODAS 2123). It presents artefacts from the history of Lithuanian underground and alternative music and sound art, personal collections of records and publications, as well as work by musicians creating today.
