THE GREAT MUSICIANS' FESTIVAL 2026

The Great Musicians' Festival, dedicated to World Music Day, will gather Golden Disc laureates, opera soloists, instrumentalists, choirs, orchestras and young musicians on one stage. This year the festival is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Lithuanian Musicians' Union and the 95th anniversary of the music art and science journal "Muzikos barai". The festive concert will feature organ, choral and chamber music, opera arias and jazz compositions. The two-part programme offers listeners well-known works, musical discoveries and surprises. At the festival we will honour the 2026 Golden Disc laureates. The lifetime achievement award goes to Lina Naikelienė. This year's laureates are organist Jurgita Kazakevičiūtė, opera soloist Viktorija Miškūnaitė, jazz singer Veronika ChiChi and the Panevėžys Music Theatre wind orchestra "Garsas", led by Martynas Bražas. Join us in congratulating the laureates! The concert features Golden Disc laureates from 2013 to 2026 and guests of the festival: Opera soloists Justina Gringytė, Kristian Benedikt (Vaidas Vyšniauskas), Viktorija Miškūnaitė and Rita Petrauskaitė. Instrumentalists: organist Jurgita Kazakevičiūtė, birbynė players Egidijus Ališauskas and Vytautas Kiminius, pianists Daumantas Kirilauskas, Audronė Juozauskaitė and Paulius Zdanavičius, violinists Rūta Lipinaitytė and Dovydas Čiplys. Jazz performers Veronika ChiChi, Dmitrijus Golovanovas, Janas Maksimovičius and Vytis Nivinskas. The boys' and youth choir "Ąžuoliukas" (director Vytautas Miškinis), the ensemble "Musica humana" (artistic director Robertas Beinaris) and the Vilnius sacred music choir "Adoramus" (director Dr Imantas Jonas Šimkus). The cello ensemble "TOP" of the Kaunas Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium (director Asta Krištaponienė) and the cello quintet: Ramutė Kalnėnaitė, Marius Sakavičius, Kasparas Šerpytis, Viltė Dobilaitė and Julius Jonušas. The symphony orchestra "Svajonė" of the Alytus Music School and the Panevėžys Music Theatre wind orchestra "Garsas". The ceremonial opening of the concert will be shaped by the organ music of Jean Langlais and excerpts from Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria". The festive programme will feature a composition of Lithuanian patriotic songs, chamber works and opera arias. The sound of the cellos will be revealed in Mantas Šidlauskas's "Glass Planet" and in "Verdiana", built on themes from "La traviata", a work of great importance to our opera history, arranged for five cellos on the initiative of David Geringas, while the jazz performers will present the music of Veronika Čičinskaitė-Golovanova, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Vytautas Kiminius and Justina Gringytė will perform with the Alytus Music School symphony orchestra "Svajonė", and Kristian Benedikt and Viktorija Miškūnaitė with the Panevėžys Music Theatre wind orchestra "Garsas". The ceremonial finale of the festival will bring George Frideric Handel's "Hallelujah", a tradition since the first Great Musicians' Parade in 1997. It will be performed by the Panevėžys Music Theatre wind orchestra "Garsas" and the Vilnius sacred music choir "Adoramus". And Luigi Denza's "Funiculì, Funiculà", continuing the tradition begun by Virgilijus Noreika in 1997, will be sung by everyone together.
