The Sound of M. K. Čiurlionis' Vilnius | ROKAS VALUNTONIS

This summer, the ongoing concert series "Skambantis Čiurlionio Vilnius" ("Čiurlionis’ Sounding Vilnius") returns to the M. K. Čiurlionis House! “During his performances, R. Valuntonis manages to ignite in listeners’ eyes not mere sympathy, but flames of great, enthusiastic admiration” – L. Slepkovaitė, journalist, author of the LRT radio programme “Muzikinis pastišas”. Rokas performs actively in renowned concert halls in major European cities, the United Kingdom, Asia, South America, and Lithuania. The pianist currently lives in London, where since 2017 he has worked with the “City Music Foundation” artist agency. Highly regarded by music critics, Rokas is frequently invited to international festivals, where he gives solo recitals and collaborates with orchestras and chamber ensembles. The pianist has performed with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Málaga Symphony Orchestra, the Aachen Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Chamber Orchestra, the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, the Lund Symphony Orchestra, and the Panevėžys Chamber Orchestra, and has collaborated with conductors Juozas Domarkas, Lutz Köhler, Donatas Katkus, Olivier Grangean, Modestas Barkauskas, Roger Andersson, and Vidmantas Kapučinskas. Rokas has won top prizes at more than 20 international piano competitions in Lithuania, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, and Germany. Among the most notable are 1st Prize at the “Nordic Piano Competition” in Malmö, 2nd Prize at the International M. K. Čiurlionis Piano Competition in Vilnius, and 1st Prize at the “Societa Umanitaria Music Competition” in Milan. The pianist has received the prestigious Queen Morta Award, as well as letters of commendation from President Valdas Adamkus and President Dalia Grybauskaitė for his achievements in music. In 2020, Rokas received the Young Artist Award from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture. PROGRAMME: M. K.
