Things I Never Noticed Despite Walking Past the Cathedral a Thousand Times, and Other Vilnius Stories
Having lived in beloved Vilnius my whole life, I'm still constantly amazed at how many details simply slip past unnoticed, how much I fail to see, especially in the places I walk through most often. It seems we only get a tourist's eye for our surroundings when we travel, while much about our own city remains undiscovered. So with this tour I want to bring to light the layers of the city that are, so to speak, hidden — even when they're often right there in plain sight (and not only that of Napoleon, who supposedly wanted to carry off St. Anne's Church). The route itself is perhaps a fairly standard one for guides telling visitors about the city – visiting the main sights from the Cathedral to the Gates of Dawn. But I want to tell stories that were surprising even to me, and which I'm sure will be interesting both to people who live here and to those who have just arrived. And there are certainly plenty of them! The walk is well suited both for those who haven't explored the city much yet, and for people like me, who have usually visited themed tours, yet the history of the city's main landmarks themselves has remained unexplored. So let's meet on Saturday, September 20, at 12:30 PM. Meeting point: By the Gediminas Monument (next to the Palace of the Grand Dukes) Payment by bank transfer (Recipient: Anton Nikitin, please indicate the tour date), account no. LT927044090111298520. Tour duration – about 2.5 hours.
Adresas: Pradžia – Gedimino paminklas
