To the Moon (Or Maybe) and Back
The project "To the Moon (Or Maybe) and Back" invites us to look at motherhood not as an idealized state, but as an ambivalent experience – full of closeness, tension, creativity, exhaustion and constant transformation. This is a cycle of events that brings together visual arts, performance, theatre, discussions and community practices, aiming to open a space for a sensitive and critical dialogue. The visual arts exhibition brings together artists of different generations reflecting on motherhood at its various stages – from early experiences to relationships with adult children. Using different media – textiles, photography, installation, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, performance and video – motherhood is articulated here as a multifaceted experience, encompassing both individual experiences and collective social aspects. During the exhibition opening, a performance by Vaida Tamoševičiūtė will take place, Karolina Žernytė's autobiographical play "Mama sapiens" will be shown, followed by educational and discursive activities – workshops, tours and an interdisciplinary discussion, which expand the thematic field of the exhibition and create a space for critical reflection. The aim of this project is to bring the topic of motherhood to the fore in the work of contemporary artists and researchers, to encourage an open, sensitive and critical approach to an experience that is often idealized, undervalued or silenced. This is not an attempt to provide unambiguous answers, but an invitation to dwell in complexity, to speak about contradictions and to share experiences. The exhibition and other activities will take place at Trakai Vokė Manor – a place historically associated with family life and community. This place becomes an important part of the context, allowing the theme of motherhood to be reflected on not only individually but also collectively. The project is aimed at a wide audience – not only mothers or about mothers, but everyone, inviting them to rethink their relationship with motherhood and its experiences.
