Tour of Vilnius's Monster: History and Energy Transformation
Employees say you never know what surprises the Monster holds, so be prepared for the unexpected. Together with a guide, you will journey through the power plant's streets, walk its corridors, visit the basement made famous by the HBO series "Chernobyl," and most importantly, be among the first to witness the ongoing energy transformation and the construction site of a green hydrogen plant. This huge territory, covering more than 20 hectares, is like a small town with its own streets, history, and secrets. At its center is a red-brick building, which employees nicknamed the Monster. From here, heat travels through more than 770 km of pipes, like blood vessels, to the homes of Vilnius residents. How does it originate? What equipment hums inside the Monster? Why are bullets found in biofuel? Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 2, greeting visitors from afar with its tall chimneys, invites you to learn and understand how heat, hot water, and electricity are produced, and to see with your own eyes how efficient innovations are replacing old technologies. This is one of the most interesting operational industrial sites in the Baltic States. Participants in the tour must comply with all safety requirements , not fall behind the group, and not touch equipment. Throughout the tour, participants must wear helmets and high-visibility vests provided by the organizers. Part of the tour takes place outdoors, part indoors, so please consider the weather conditions and ensure appropriate clothing.
