Tour "Shalom, Vilnius" and Litvak Breakfast

The tour "Shalom, Vilnius" tells the story of the everyday life of Vilnius Jews in the 19th – early 20th century, combined with a Litvak breakfast at the "Baleboste" café. We'll start our city walk with a Litvak breakfast (a selection of spreads + a bagel + fruit compote). The breakfast costs 12 EUR. The tour and its stories begin at "Baleboste" – a kosher-style food restaurant, where we'll taste traditional spreads in different flavours and the tastiest Litvak bagel in the world, made according to the authentic family recipes of the kitchen's mistress (Yiddish – "balebos") Riva. During the tasting you'll learn more about kosher eating and the journey of the Litvak bagel from Lithuania to America and back. After eating, we'll head out to walk through the winding streets of the Old Town. We'll talk about the different professions, personalities and businesses of Vilnius's Jews, the community's legends, hardships and joys up until the Second World War. We'll also explore the Stumbling Stones (memorial stones), which we often walk past on Vilnius streets without even noticing. Together we'll try to understand just how much of daily life in old Vilnius fit into a couple of small blocks, and how similar the people who lived there were to each and every one of us. 🕵️ Like all of our city walks, this one is also spiced up with interactive game elements. Breakfast is paid separately upon arrival at "Baleboste." Breakfast costs 12 euros per person.
