Tour

Since this Saturday's group is full, I'm forming an additional group for this Sunday - May 31st! Did you know that Vilnius has a Samogitian character? This journey begins at the monument to King Mindaugas, where the first foundations of our state were laid – and I dare say, they were staunchly Samogitian! After all, our great rulers – from Mindaugas and Gediminas to Vytautas – built their power precisely on the loyalty and unbreakable strength of the Samogitians! Do you think Vilnius is just princely dreams and baroque curves? What if I told you that without Samogitian stubbornness, Vilnius would sound completely different today: from the dust on Simonas Daukantas's shoes to the intrigues of Žemaitė's "headscarf" and the strong characters who shaped the capital? And what if the early 19th-century Lithuanianist movement of Samogitian nobles at Vilnius University hadn't been "extinguished" by the university's closure, and this movement had grown into a huge national revival with a powerful Samogitian code?! How would Vilnius residents speak today…? Come to the "Samogitianly Tough Vilnius" tour and you'll see the city through the prism of character. It will be truly interesting and "with a real edge"! More about the tour: www.gerosekskursijos.lt The tour is free, but tips for the guide are welcome at the end.
