Tour: "Was it better under the Russians?"

THE MEDININKAI MASSACRE 09-2-047-91 – these numbers conceal the seven victims who perished at the Medininkai customs post on July 31, 1991. This is the number of the criminal case initiated after the Riga OMON murdered officers of the Republic of Lithuania who were guarding the borders of independent Lithuania. Antanas Musteikis, Stanislovas Orlavičius, Algimantas Juozakas, Mindaugas Balavakas, Juozas Janonis, Algirdas Kazlauskas, Ričardas Rabavičius – they became victims of a desperate and dying Soviet beast. It was a horrific event; while the pain of the January 1991 events had not yet subsided, the Soviet monster attempted to intimidate the reborn Lithuanian state. This massacre was, as it were, the culmination of all OMON terror. Until the August Coup in Moscow, which finally suffocated hopes of reviving the corpse, that is, the former Soviet Union, this criminal regime terrorized Lithuanian customs officers numerous times. Tomas Šernas, the only survivor of that terrible night, has said that we cannot move forward without forgiving. It may seem like weakness, but carrying evil and anger burns the person themselves. Our Christian culture teaches us to forgive, but not to forget. First and foremost, we will not forget our fallen, but we will also not forget those who did it and those who hid them.
