Traditional Culture in State Symbols | Tour of the Ethnography Repository
On the occasion of State Day, we invite you to explore the ethnography repository of the Lithuanian National Museum, focusing on traditional culture artifacts that have become symbols representing the state. We will have the opportunity to examine an exclusive collection of spindles and distaffs and discuss how the spindle – a simple spinning tool – became a symbol embodying Lithuanian identity. We will admire the wonderful works of straw garden makers and learn how the tradition of making straw gardens was revived and gained the status of Lithuanian intangible cultural heritage. We will discuss how traditional peasant clothing became a national costume worn on State Day, and how Rūpintojėlis became a sculpture embodying the Lithuanian spirit and representing Lithuania.
