Vilnius Then and Now – Free Walking Tour of the Old Town

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes Registration required: [email protected] Tour will be conducted in English DESCRIPTION Join me for a free walking tour of the most important sites in Vilnius Old Town – a UNESCO heritage treasure where history, architecture and everyday life converge. This is not a tour about dates and monuments. It is an immersive journey through the evolution of a city that constantly reinvents itself – a transformation I have partly witnessed with my own eyes. My name is Alessandra, I am a guide, and although I have travelled widely, Vilnius remains my favourite city. I would love to share with you what makes it so special. Our walk will begin at Cathedral Square. Here you will learn why this place is not only a religious space, but also a symbol of national identity and freedom. We will then venture into the historic network of medieval streets that once formed the heart of a multicultural city. We will explore hidden courtyards – have you heard of Lithuanian Baroque? We will pass through the key sites of the Old Town, travelling from the ancient city to modern Vilnius. Of course, we will not skip the Town Hall, the Gates of Dawn, and the famous artists’ quarter of Užupis. Do you know what it is famous for? We will end the tour at one of the city’s favourite markets, where old traditions meet contemporary food culture. Here you can continue your exploration through local flavours – fresh bread, smoked meats, spices, coffee, traditional dishes and handmade souvenirs – or simply continue your journey by train, as the station is just a few minutes’ walk away. Discover Vilnius through the eyes of someone who truly loves this city.
