Vox organi Cathedralis 2026. MATTHIAS MAIERHOFER
"Vox organi Cathedralis" (lit. "Voice of the Cathedral Organ") – an organ music festival held at Vilnius Archcathedral Basilica since 2017. Marking the festival's tenth anniversary, the organ of Vilnius Archcathedral will resound this year with voices from organs in cathedrals across Europe. From 14 June to 20 September, musical dedications will be performed to the cathedrals of Austria, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Latvia, France, and Germany. The programme features works by cathedral organists, compositions written for organ inaugurations or premiered in cathedrals. Concerts by the organists of Vilnius and Freiburg (Germany) cathedrals will also take place. 20 September 2026, 4:00 PM Recital by the Organist of Freiburg Cathedral of Our Lady Organ: MATTHIAS MAIERHOFER (Germany) Programme: Dieterich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, César Franck, Guy Bovet, Thierry Escaich. ***** Matthias Maierhofer studied organ, early music, and church music at the universities of music in Graz, Freiburg, and Leipzig, and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In 2003 he became a laureate of the International M.K. Čiurlionis Competition in Vilnius, and in 2007 won first prize at the prestigious Nuremberg Organ Competition. He performs actively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and his recordings have been released by Ambitus, Ambiente, and Spektral. Since 2016 he has been professor of organ at the Freiburg University of Music and principal organist of Freiburg Cathedral.
