Vox organi Cathedralis 2026. VILIMAS NORKŪNAS

"Vox organi Cathedralis" – an organ music festival held at Vilnius Cathedral Basilica since 2017. Marking the festival's tenth anniversary, this year the organs of Vilnius Cathedral will resound with the voices of European cathedral organs. From 14 June to 20 September, musical dedications will ring out to the cathedrals of Austria, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Latvia, France and Germany. The programme features works by cathedral organists, compositions created for organ inaugurations, and pieces performed for the first time in cathedrals. Concerts by the organists of Vilnius and Freiburg (Germany) cathedrals will also take place. 27 August 2026 at 12:00 Dedication to the Basilica di San Marco, Venice Organ: VILIMAS NORKŪNAS Programme: Annibale Padovano, Girolamo Diruta, Andrea Gabrieli, Gioseffo Guami, Baldassare Galuppi. ***** Vilimas Norkūnas studied choral conducting and organ at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and from 2002 to 2007 studied organ and sacred music at Mozarteum University Salzburg (in the class of Prof. H. Metzger). He obtained master's degrees in sacred music (2011) and choral conducting (2012) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, and in 2014 completed a harpsichord specialisation there. He has taken courses with Prof. Sander, Lohmann, van Dijk, Vogel, Planyavsky and Ghielmi. In 2006 he won first prize at the first Jono Žukas Young Organists' Competition in Vilnius. Since 2015 he has been organist at St. Ignatius' Church in Vilnius. He has performed with the Varna and Graz Philharmonic Orchestras and with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the KKL in Lucerne. He is a co-founder of the ensembles "Šviesotamsa" and "Cordaria" and leads educational projects presenting historical instruments across Lithuania. Since 2017 he is a member of the National Organists' Association.
