What Happens When the Bees Go Silent? A Discussion on World Bee Day
Without bees, a large part of our food wouldn't exist. So why is the government proposing to weaken their protection?! Bees are disappearing. Pesticide residues are found in honey. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture proposes to change the rules for using bee-poisoning pesticides in such a way that beekeepers would no longer receive information about some chemical sprays, or would receive it too late, risking not being able to protect their bees. On the eve of World Bee Day, May 19, we invite you to meet with specialists and discuss what is happening with our food, nature, and agricultural policy in Lithuania. During the discussion, we will talk about: • how pesticides affect bees and the environment • why their residues are found in honey • what weakening pesticide control means • whose interests the state truly defends Participants: Laurynas Okockis – beekeeper, freelance environmental inspector Laimonas Galvonas – head of "Medaus namai" Gražvydas Jegelevičius – chemical substances expert at "Baltijos aplinkos forumas" Moderated by: Ieva Budraitė – Chairwoman of Lietuvos žaliųjų partija We invite you to come, ask questions, discuss, and taste some honey!
