WHAT'S THAT SOUND? | Kanklės Trivia at the National Library
The year 2026 has been declared the Year of the Kanklės, marking the 120th anniversary of the Skriaudžiai kanklės ensemble – the first of its kind in Lithuania. Inspired by this festive year, the Statehood Centre of the National Library of Lithuania, the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre, and their partners are organizing a trivia game about the kanklės and invite you to register five-member teams by June 28. In Lithuania, the kanklės (a traditional Baltic string instrument) has long been considered a symbol of national identity and even freedom, and the tradition of playing it is still cherished by various communities and craftsmen today. However, the kanklės is not limited to the folklore scene – anyone can master this instrument. Its sound is perfect for both a quiet evening and a lively gathering, and it is increasingly finding its place in the modern world. We invite you to register by email at valstybingumocentras@lnb.lt . See you for some kanklės vibes on June 30 at 6:00 PM in the Statehood Space (2nd floor)! * Cover photo by Rimantė Šalkauskaitė, 2025.
