WITH LOVE EVERY HOUR

A new sound of the city in Vilnius A new sound project – “With Love Every Hour” – is being launched in Vilnius. From 6 April 2026, the Vilnius carillon in the bell tower of the Dominican (St Philip and James the Apostles) Church will ring specially composed melodies about love every hour. Every day from 9:00 to 21:00, the city clock strikes will be accompanied by brief musical motifs, creating a subtle yet constantly recurring sound rhythm of Vilnius. “With Love Every Hour” was created by the director and artist of the Vilnius Carillon Festival, Jurgis Pauliukas, together with Japanese carillonneur Toru Takao. This is a creative collaboration now in its third year – in 2025, the hourly melodies featured the music of M. K. Čiurlionis, and this year the theme of love has been chosen. “We wanted the city to have its own quiet but recognisable rhythm. Not a concert, but a constantly recurring sign – a brief musical moment that appears, spreads and disappears. Love in this case is not just a theme – it is a way of speaking to the city,” says the project’s author Jurgis Pauliukas. The project stands out in that the carillon becomes not only a concert instrument, but also a part of everyday city life. This is not an invitation to come and listen – these are brief musical signs for those who happen to be passing by at that moment. The sound naturally blends into the city’s sonic environment and becomes an unexpected but pleasant part of its daily rhythm. The Vilnius carillon – one of the largest in Central Europe (61 bells) – is installed in the tower of the Dominican Church. Its sound spreads in open space and can be heard in various parts of the city. “With Love Every Hour” invites Vilnius residents and visitors to the city to pause, listen and experience the city through time and sound. 9:00 Thank you for a new morning 10:00 God, bless our day 11:00 Love one another 12:00 I feel that God loves us so 13:00 I love those who love me 14:00 I love You 15:00 And jazz 16:00 Time for peace 17:00 With love in Vilnius 18:00 The love of Mary and Joseph 19:00 As a prayer to the Mother of God at Lukiškės 20:00 Love remains 21:00 God, bless the quiet night Project authors: Jurgis PAULIUKAS Toru TAKAO (Japan)
