Vilnius Japanese Garden
The Vilnius Japanese Garden is one of the most tranquil green spaces in the city, located in the Šnipiškės district at Linkmenų g. 2A. Spanning nearly 5 hectares, the garden was designed according to the philosophy of Japanese strolling gardens, where the journey itself – walking, observing, pausing – is as important as the scenery. Visitors are recommended to walk clockwise, gradually revealing different landscapes, plant compositions and water features. The garden features a pond, waterfall, pontoon and moon bridges, a dry river, dry garden, stone compositions, a gazebo, footpaths, benches, children's playgrounds and drinking fountains. The landscape is designed so that natural and symbolic elements complement each other: stones evoke mountains, gravel suggests rippling water, and the sculpted hills blend with the forested Šeškinė slope behind. In spring the garden blooms with cherry blossom alleys, irises and rhododendrons; summer brings lush greenery, and autumn sets the maples and other trees ablaze with colour. It is a place that changes with the seasons – worth returning to more than once, for a short walk, a quiet break, or a slow weekend afternoon in nature.
