2 Days in Vilnius: What to Expect?
Two days are enough to explore the highlights of Vilnius and still have time to relax in a courtyard cafe. This itinerary is designed for first-time visitors and optimized for walking.
Day 1: Old Town, Cathedral & Užupis
Morning (9:00-12:00)
Start at Cathedral Square (Katedros aikštė). Have breakfast at one of the cafes on Pilies Street. Find the magical tile (stebuklas) in front of the Cathedral, turn clockwise three times, and make a wish. Afterwards, climb Gediminas Castle Tower, it's a 10-minute ascent, offering panoramic views over the red roofs.
Lunch (12:00-14:00)
Stroll along Pilies Street. Discover the University Courtyard, one of the most beautiful spaces in Vilnius. Have lunch at Lokys (Lithuanian cuisine in a medieval vaulted cellar) or Etno Dvaras for Cepelinai (potato dumplings), the national dish.
Afternoon (14:00-18:00)
Cross the Vilnelė River to Užupis, the self-proclaimed artists' republic. Read the constitution on the mirror plaques (in 60 languages). Stroll to the Angel statue. Visit galleries and cafes.
Return via Bernardinų Street: St. Anne's Church and St. Peter and Paul's Church (interior with 2,000 stucco sculptures).
Evening
Enjoy an aperitif at a rooftop bar, Hotel Pacai or Stikliai. Dinner at Džiaugsmas or Gaspar's. Night drinks at Bambalynė (100+ Lithuanian craft beers).
Day 2: Museums, Markets & Modern Vilnius
Morning
Visit Halės Market (Halės Turgus), the beautiful iron and glass market hall. Enjoy coffee and pastries from artisans. Then, head to MO Museum for contemporary Lithuanian art (60-90 minutes). Stroll through Naujamiestis, the emerging district with street art and independent cafes.
Afternoon
Visit the Holocaust Museum (Green House), a necessary stop. Afterwards, walk along the Neris River promenade for views of modern Vilnius.
Evening
Enjoy a farewell dinner (book in advance: Sweet Root or Amandus) and a night stroll through the illuminated Old Town.
Practical Tips
