Gabija Baužaitė and Vytautas Straižys | From Jazz Classics to Rhythm and Blues

On October 3, two musicians who perfectly understand each other will meet on the "Downtown Piano Lab" stage: vocalist Gabija Baužaitė with her distinctive timbre and virtuoso pianist Vytautas Straižys . This is not their first musical encounter. The duo, who perform together and are already beloved by the audience, captivates with what cannot be rehearsed down to the smallest detail – a lively dialogue, spontaneous improvisations, and music that sounds different every time. Gabija Baužaitė is an LMTA jazz master's graduate, a songwriter, and one of the brightest vocalists on Lithuania's contemporary jazz and soul scene. Her warm, rich, low-toned voice is often compared to Diana Krall. Gabija's performance combines subtlety and inner strength – she can create an intimate mood with just a few notes, and the next moment fill the entire hall with emotion. Vytautas Straižys is a graduate of the M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, who completed his jazz studies in the Netherlands. His playing merges virtuoso technique, rich harmony, and free improvisation, with musical influences ranging from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Herbie Hancock to Claude Debussy and Sergei Rachmaninoff. The evening's program will see jazz classics meet soul and pop music interpretations. However, the most important aspect here will not be the genre names, but the intimacy created by the two performers: voice, piano, and the space between the notes where true music is born.
