Japan in Vilnius! ,,BON ODORI” – a 2-Day Japanese Culture Festival 2026
On September 5–6, the courtyard of Istorijų namai (House of Stories) will turn into a little Japan in the heart of Vilnius. For two days, a free Japanese culture festival „Bon Odori“ will take place, inviting visitors to discover Japanese traditions through dance, music, art, martial arts, creative activities and authentic flavours. One of the festival's main highlights will be a performance by the 22-member „Tokyo Koenji Awa Odori Kikusui-ren“ troupe, arriving from Tokyo. Audiences will see the energetic traditional Awa Odori dance, accompanied by live music, taiko drums and Japanese instruments. Festival guests will also be invited to join a communal Bon Odori dance with Japanese culture ambassador Ayano Honda. No preparation is needed for this dance – all that matters is the desire to move together and become part of the shared circle. The festival's programme includes creative workshops, calligraphy, sumi-e painting, ikebana, sashiko, kimono culture, Japanese crafts, talks about Japan, Aikido and Kyokushin karate demonstrations, a market of Japanese goods, a food court, and activities for the whole family. The event is free . Some workshops require advance registration and may have a separate participation fee. Organised by the public institutions „Dozo“ and the Asian Arts Centre. The project is funded by the Vilnius City Municipality. Full programme and workshop registration: https://japonukulturosfestivalis.lt/
