MUSLIM SHAGGAN’s singing style is technically refined yet gentle, and his work is characterized by a fusion of different historical traditions. He is a descendant of Bhai Mardana (1459–1534), who played alongside Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
This Rababi dynasty of musicians eventually adopted the Gwalior gharana (style) of Hindustani vocal music. Muslim was trained by his grandfather, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, one of the finest exponents of this style, who rigorously prepared him from the age of seven to carry on this centuries-old musical legacy.
Today, Muslim regularly performs at all major classical music festivals and concert halls in his country, as well as appearing on radio and television. In addition to his outstanding skills in the Khayal genre, the musician is equally adept at performing various other South Asian musical forms, including contemporary and folk styles.
His musical experiments are rooted in traditional knowledge but are not bound by rigid methodologies.
At the concert at the Kirtimai Cultural Center, MUSLIM SHAGGAN will perform songs from his album “Asar”, released in 2025, alongside other original works.
