Tour “Shalom Vilnius” and Litvak Breakfast at “Baleboste”
The tour “Shalom, Vilnius” tells the stories of the everyday life of Vilnius Jews in the 19th and early 20th centuries, together with a Litvak breakfast at “Baleboste”. ATTENTION! The Litvak breakfast (a set of spreads + a bagel + fruit compote) is not included in the tour ticket. The breakfast costs 12 Eur/person . It is paid for on arrival at Baleboste. The tour and its stories begin at “Baleboste” – a kosher-style food restaurant. Here we will taste various traditional spreads and the most delicious Litvak bagel, made according to the authentic family recipes of the kitchen's “balebos” (Yiddish for “lady of the house”), Riva. During the tasting you will learn more about kosher eating and the journey of the Litvak bagel from Lithuania to America and back. After eating, we will walk through the winding streets of the Old Town. We will talk about the different professions, personalities, businesses, community legends, hardships, and joys of Vilnius's Jews before the Second World War. We will also explore the Stumbling Stones of Remembrance, which we often walk past on the streets of Vilnius without even noticing. Together we will try to understand how a huge part of everyday life in old Vilnius fit into just a couple of small blocks, and how similar the people who lived there were to each of us. Like all our city walks, this one is also spiced up with interactive game elements. In the guide's bag you will find sounds, objects, small items, and pouches designed to stir your curiosity and imagination. Breakfast is paid for separately on arrival at “Baleboste”.
