Castle Street

Pilies Street (Castle Street) is the oldest and most lively artery of Vilnius Old Town, connecting the area in front of Vilnius Cathedral with the gates of Vilnius University . Paved with cobblestones, this street has been walked for centuries and still carries an authentic medieval city atmosphere. On both sides stand Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings whose ground floors are filled with galleries, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. You'll find amber jewellery, folk art, linen textiles and other Lithuanian crafts. In summer the street becomes an outdoor entertainment zone: street musicians play, artists sketch, and visitors crowd the cafe terraces. Pilies Street is the natural starting point for any Old Town walk. From here it's easy to reach St. Anne's Church , Bernardine Park and Gediminas Castle Hill . The street is considered one of the most beautiful medieval streets in Europe and is a key part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses Vilnius Old Town.
