Police Museum
The Lithuanian Police Museum – one of Vilnius' most atypical museums – is located on Biržėlio Street, near the Old Town. It holds material on the history of policing, forensics, and law enforcement from the 19th century to the present: uniforms, weapons, investigative equipment, criminal case documents, and authentic forensic kits. Exhibition: From Tsarist Times to Today The collection spans the Russian Imperial police, interwar Lithuanian criminal investigation, the Soviet militia era, and the modern Lithuanian police force. Exhibits show how law enforcement, criminal procedures, and forensic technology changed over more than a century. The forensic laboratory section is especially detailed – fingerprint analysis, handwriting expertise, ballistics. Interactive and Educational The museum is known for its interactive education programmes: visitors can try to solve a "crime", get familiar with investigative equipment, and understand how criminal investigations work. It is particularly popular for school groups and families with children who dream of becoming detectives. Practical Information The museum operates on weekdays; group tours can be arranged in advance. Entry is free or at a nominal charge. Located on Biržėlio Street, reachable by public transport from Cathedral Square .
