Pūčkoriai Cliffs

Pūčkoriai Cliffs (Pūčkorių atodanga) is one of the most impressive natural landmarks in the Vilnius region, located about 20 km from the city centre. This is a high escarpment along the Neris River exposing geological strata accumulated over millions of years. The sheer limestone and sandstone cliffs, 20–30 metres tall, create a dramatic landscape that contrasts strikingly with the river bend below. The exposure is a protected natural monument, so the geological layers may not be disturbed. The site is popular with geologists, biologists and nature photographers. The riverbank below the cliffs is a favourite fishing and recreation spot. In spring and autumn the high cliffs are beautifully reflected in the river water. A visit to Pūčkoriai requires a little planning – it is most easily reached by car or bicycle via Nemenčinė. An ideal destination for nature lovers who want to see a less-touristy side of the Vilnius region. It can be combined with a visit to Verkiai Regional Park .
