Railway Museum Vilnius
The Railway Museum in Vilnius invites you to explore the history of Lithuanian railways – from the first stations, the daily life of train travel and railway workers' duties, to the role of modern railways in the city and the country. It is one of the most interesting places in Vilnius for those who enjoy transport, history, technology, or unconventional museum experiences. The museum operates in the historical 19th-century Vilnius Railway Station's passenger halls. The indoor exhibition is arranged in several halls, presenting authentic items, documents, photographs, travel attributes, and the history of railway communications, rolling stock, signaling, and railway workers' duties. Here you can see old suitcases, tickets, passenger carriage dishes, porters' badges, and other exhibits that help to imagine how train journeys looked in different periods. The museum is particularly attractive to families with children: train models, interactive solutions, and the opportunity to learn about railway history through experience allow visitors not only to look but also to explore. Visitors are also invited to visit the outdoor exhibition – the Rail Park next to Vilnius Station, where historical rolling stock can be seen with free admission. The Railway Museum stands out because it is located within the railway environment itself – in the Vilnius Station building. Therefore, history here is not separated from real city life: trains still move nearby, and the museum allows one to understand how this world of movement came into being.
