St. Casimir's Church

St. Casimir's Church is the first Baroque church in Vilnius and one of the finest examples of early Baroque architecture in the Baltic states. Built by the Jesuits at the beginning of the 17th century, it is dedicated to St. Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania, whose relics are kept in Vilnius Cathedral. The white façade and distinctive cupola adorn Didžioji Street – the main artery of Vilnius Old Town . The interior enchants visitors with rich stucco decoration, majestic columns and early Baroque altars. The church has been rebuilt and renovated several times while retaining its distinctive architectural character. Today it hosts an active Catholic community with Masses celebrated in several languages, and large gatherings of the faithful during major religious feasts. The church also welcomes tourists who come to admire its Baroque art and peaceful atmosphere of prayer. St. Casimir's Church is a must-stop for anyone walking through Vilnius Old Town from the Cathedral towards the Gate of Dawn.
